myCARE Blood Glucose Health Care Test

Description

The normal blood glucose range for healthy people is around 70 - 110 mg/dl. Hormonal regulation ensures that this range is not reached or exceeded. Insulin is the most important factor for the stabilisation of the blood glucose concentration. Diseases that harm the insulin production lead to an increased glucose concentration which results in metabolic disorders. The most common metabolic disorder is diabetes mellitus which, if untreated, leads to vascular diseases - renal insufficiency (glomerulosclerosis), retinal damage (retinopathy, blindness), or arterial diseases (heart attacks, apoplexy).

For an appropriate medical treatment, an early detection of the disease has high importance.

With this test it is easy, fast and reliable to - in addition to medical examination - take a precautionary measure.

FAQ

Why is important to perform this test?

Diabetes is one of the world's most prevalent illnesses: In Austria alone, 400.000 people are manifesting diabetes. Early diagnosis with the aid of our quick and easy-to-use blood sugar test can help to prevent future complications.

How is this test performed?

By using the lancet, one drop of blood has to be taken and placed on the test field. The blood has to be removed with a tissue from the test field after 30 seconds. After waiting further 30 seconds the result can be read out by matching the colour of the test field with the colour fields on the colour chart.

What does the result tell you?

Glucose levels between 72 mg/dl (4 mmol/l) and 108 mg/dl (6 mmol/l) are within the normal range. If the glucose level is well below or above those normal limits it is recommended to consult a doctor.

What are the long-term effects of an increased blood glucose level?

In the long-term, high glucose levels can damage the blood vessels in the human body. It can lead to impaired eyesight, kidney failure, nerve damage, erectile dysfunction and poor wound healing capability. Furthermore, the risk of cardiac arrest and strokes is significally elevated.

What is the probability of developing diabetes?

The risk of developing diabetes is significantly higher if first-line relatives (parents, siblings) also have diabetes. Obesity and lack of physical activity also increase the risk of developing diabetes.

Which symptoms does diabetes cause?

Severe thirst, frequent need to urinate and unexplained weight loss are some of the symptoms of diabetes. Other symptoms include tiring easily and blurred vision.
